Bucky Layland Softball Complex

Cindy “Bucky” Layland coached for 18 years before retiring in 2003 as Delta’s all-time winningest softball coach. Prior to her career at Delta Layland was the University of the Pacific’s first ever softball coach. In 1983 she coached the Tigers to the College World Series, where they finished 5th. During her 18 seasons at Delta Layland’s teams advanced to regional playoffs 17 times, and she was named conference “Coach of The Year” 13 times.

San Joaquin Delta College honored longtime softball Coach Bucky Layland by dedicating the new softball complex in her name on Saturday, April 16th, 2011.

The Delta Softball Team began play in 2009 on its newly renovated synthetic FIELDturf facility. The field features

Ernie Marcopulos Gymnasium

Home to Delta Mustangs Volleyball

This gym was named for Ernie Marcopulos who served at Delta College for 34 years as a legendary basketball coach and athletic director. “Ernie is one of the most outstanding people in the history of Delta College. The support he has given coaches and athletes in his career has been exemplary.”- Former Delta College President L.H Horton Jr.

Joseph Blanchard Gymnasium

Home to Delta Mustangs Basketball and Wrestling Teams

This gym is named after Joseph Blanchard who served as President Superintendent of San Joaquin Delta College from 1954-1976. During his time at Delta he increased funding, secured additional land, and increased the daily attendance almost 300% more than doubling the value of the college. He was a well-known leader in the community. Blanchard was a retired Colonel of The United States Marines; he served in World War ll and the Korean conflict. Joseph Blanchard passed away on February 20th, 2006.

June Fergusson Pool

Home to Delta Mustangs Water Polo and Swim & Dive Teams

The June Fergusson Pool is home to the men and women's swimming and diving teams and men and women's water polo teams. The pool complex was named after June Sprague Fergusson who pioneered the development of age-group swimming in San Joaquin County, coached swimming for 10 years, and was a valued member of the Delta College classified Staff. It is an Olympic size swimming pool with 1-meter and 3-meter springboards.

Lawrence A. DeRicco Football Field

This field is dedicated to Lawrence A. DeRicco a man who some say built San Joaquin Delta College. He was born on January 28, 1923 and passed away in 2010 at the age of 87. He was a Stockton native who served in the Army in World War ll, and graduated from the then College of The Pacific. He was the first employee hired at a newly dependent school known as Delta College. He became President San Joaquin Delta College in 1981, and was President for 6 years. He was also a recipient of the California Teachers Association Golden Apple award.

The Delta Football Team started their 2008 season in their newly renovated facility. This facility features a new field turf made of synthetic material that provides an integrated system of surface and subsurface drainage and a superior field for all weather.

Merv Smith Track Complex & Raydell Barkley Throwing Area

In 2008 Mondo USA upgraded Delta’s Mondo X Super track to the New Mondo SX track system. The same track system that would debut that summer in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. San Joaquin Delta College was the first College in California to have such an advanced training and competition track. While being easy to maintain and aesthetically pleasing, the new Merv Smith Track Complex also improves athletic performance while safeguarding the athlete. With an estimated 15-20 year life span, the Mondo SX track system will benefit Delta’s athletes for years to come.

On March 5, 2009, the dedication of Delta's new track was held in honor of long time Cross Country and Track & Field Coach Merv Smith.

Merv Smith attended Modesto High School where he lettered in basketball, football and his specialty track. He then attended Modesto Junior College where he lettered in football and track. Merv transferred to San Jose State University and was coached under Bud Winters for three years.

Merv was the Head Track Coach at Yuba College two years prior to becoming Head Track & Field Coach at San Joaquin Delta College spanning 27 years.

Merv established running camps, featuring famous coaches, such as Art Lydiard. He was a consultant for the St. Thomas Olympic Track Team. His wins included:

3 Northern California Track Championships
15 State Individuals
1 Junior International Champion in the Steeple Chase

San Joaquin Delta College has recently renovated its entire athletic complex. Changes include:

New synthetic turf football, baseball, softball and soccer fields,
Olympic class resurfaced track
Resurfaced basketball floors

The Delta Baseball Team began play in 2008 on its newly renovated synthetic FIELD turf facility. Nick Cecchetti Field is one of the finest facilities in Northern California. The field features

Oak Grove Park

Home Course for Delta Mustangs Cross Country

Oak Grove Regional Park is a 180-acre park situated in an oak-forest with a 10-acre lake and two trails (1.5 mile & .25 mile). The Men's team competes in a 4 mile race and the Women's team competes in a 5K both of which are flat courses.
