Dr. Yolanda Scheer was born and raised in Northern California. She graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. She began working in a private optometric practice as an assistant following graduation, and during this time she found her passion and what would become her future career. Dr. Scheer completed four years of post-baccalaureate work at San Francisco State in Biology and received her Doctorate of Optometry from the University of California at Berkeley in 2003 and was included in the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society.

She participated in a graduate teaching program in the Binocular Vision Clinic at the University of California at Berkeley and was invited to become part of the clinical faculty. Dr. Scheer became an assistant clinical professor during her six years of teaching at the clinic. In addition to teaching, she has also served on the Alameda Contra Costa County Optometric Association board and has volunteered, providing educational presentations to preschool classroom parents on children’s vision.

Since 2003, Dr. Scheer has been in a family practice setting that includes specialty contact lens fits, co-management of refractive surgery, binocular vision assessments and infant/pediatric eye examinations.

“Providing pediatric vision care is extremely rewarding. Vision is such a critical component to learning in school aged children as an estimated eighty percent of what we learn and process is through vision. I feel passionately that children receive comprehensive eye examinations beginning from a young age to enable early intervention, when needed”, says Dr. Scheer.

A sports enthusiast, Dr. Scheer is pleased to have been involved with creating a sports vision training program through the UC Berkeley Binocular Vision clinic working with the Cal baseball team. She and her husband are avid Bay Area sports fans and enjoy watching and playing sports with their son and spending time, sharing stories and playing games with their close friends and family.
