Santa Rosa came to Stockton to open the start of what looks to be a very competitive Big 8 season and opened it with a BANG. On a rare day with the wind blowing strongly out to left field the Bear Cubs took advantage of it three times with three home runs that accounted for all their scoring in a 8-6 Delta victory. Delta starter Kevin Kyle, battled through the weather to go 6 1/3 innings. Kyle gave up just five hits while striking out ten. Unfortunately three of those hits were home runs. Noah Denoyer relieved Troy Wentworth who got one out in the seventh, and finished the game by retiring all seven batters he faced to earn the victory.

Offensively, the Mustangs answered all of the Bear Cubs scoring with a pair of runs in the in the first, third, fifth, and seventh innings. Taison Corio delivered the go-ahead blow with a two run double in the seventh. Jimmy McCleneghan and Blake Dickman both had three hits a piece in the victory. Zack Mathis hit a two run homer in the first.

With the win the Mustangs improve to 12-2 and 1-0 in the Big 8 while the Bear Cubs fall to 11-3 and 0-1 in conference play.

The two teams will play again Thursday and Friday in Santa Rosa.
