#1 Mustangs fall at #2 Wolverines in extra inning

In a battle between the top two teams in Northern California, the Mustangs came up short in the eleventh inning when they walked in the winning run. Command was an issue for most of the day as the Mustangs walked 12 (two intentionally) and hit five batters.  Delta also had opportunities to win the game but left the bases loaded twice.

The game was a seesaw battle with Sierra taking a 5-1 lead with four runs in the third inning. Delta responded with three in the fifth on home runs from Jimmy McCleneghan and Zach Mathis. Jimmy McCleneghan's rbi single in the sixth tied the game at 5-5, but Sierra's Matt Lopez's solo home run gave the lead back to Sierra. Dario Gomez drove in the tying run in the seventh, but that would be all the scoring for the Mustangs who left the bases loaded twice as Gunner Mayer gave them a chance to win with two scoreless innings.

Sierra would eventually win the game in the eleventh when control problems plagued the Mustangs. Three walks and a hit by pitch led to the winning run.

With the win Sierra takes over first place with a 11-4 record in the Big 8 and 23-6 overall. Delta falls to 8-4 in league play and 22-6 overall.
