Kevin Kyle improved to 8-2 and raised his state leading strikeout total to 101 by adding six more strikeouts. Kyle threw seven strong innings holding the Pirates to one run on four hits. Tyler Condie threw a scoreless eighth and ninth.
Anthony Lucchetti and Taison Corio led the offensive attack with three hits apiece. Lucchetti had a two rbi single and a solo home run. Corio's three hits included a double and an rbi. In all the Mustangs collected eleven hits on the day.
The win gives the Mustangs at least a share of the Big 8 Title as they hold a two game lead over Sierra and Santa Rosa with two games to play. The #1 ranked Mustangs improve to 32-6 overall and 18-4 in the Big 8 while #13 Modesto falls to 23-14 overall and 11-11 in the Big 8.
The two teams will play again on Thursday in Modesto at 2:30 and conclude the regular season on sophomore day on Friday at 1:30.
