Mustangs unravel in road loss to Modesto 6-3

Delta went on the road to try and clinch the outright Big 8 Title, but a trio of errors, walks and passed balls proved costly. Modesto took advantage of three infield errors, three passed balls and five late inning walks to score five unearned runs. Sadly, the three go ahead runs all came without a base hit. Delta wasted a quality start from Robert Gasser who left the game in a 3-3 tie after six innings of work. Gasser surrendered three unearned runs on just five singles while striking out seven. The seven strikeouts improved his season total to 100.

Offensively the Mustangs left eight runners on base in the early innings and were doubled up twice on fly balls to the outfield. Delta managed just six base hits in the loss.

With the loss the Mustangs fall to 32-7 overall and 18-5 in the Big 8 while the Pirates improve to 24-14 overall and 12-11 in the conference play. The two team will conclude the series tomorrow at 1:30 on sophomore day.
