Season Preview - Men's & Women's Basketball

Men's Basketball

As the weather starts to get cold outside things are starting to heat up inside as the basketball season tipped off this past weekend for the Mustangs with a pair of games at the Cabrillo Tip Off. In the season-opening 86-63 loss to Gavilan the Mustangs were led by newcomer Dom Victor with 18 points while Dayton Magana added 15 points. Magana who missed most of last season with an injury looked sharp in the opening game of the season as he then followed that up with a team-high 25 points during a 92-84 loss to Cabrillo. They will play their home opener tonight at 5:00 pm as they host Yuba.

Women's Basketball

Opening up the season as the number five ranked team in the state the Mustangs tipped off their season at home this past weekend and did so by winning the Jocelyn Mancebo tournament. After back-to-back 75-48 wins over Merced and Feather River the Mustangs trailed 58-49 heading into the fourth quarter of the championship game before outscoring Folsom Lake by a 28-15 margin on the way to the 77-73 win. In the win over their Big 8 rival the Mustangs got 25 points from Serenity Santos as she would take home tournament MVP honors. Kiara Manipol and Kat Noa were also named to the All-Tournament team as Noa finished with 22 points in the finals. They will now play a lot of games on the road as they aren't scheduled to return home for a game until January 3rd when they will host Santa Rosa.
