Under Coach Johnson, the Mustangs have advanced to post season competition in all twenty-seven seasons as head coach. The Mustangs continued their success in the Bay Valley Conference as Champions in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. San Joaquin Delta Women’s Basketball became a member of the new Big 8 Conference in 2005 and went on to win the conference championship in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2014, 2015, 2020, and 2022. Coach Johnson has a .75 winning percentage reaching her 700th win as a community college coach in 2022 in February vs. American River College.

Coach Johnson was named Northern California Coach of the Year by her colleagues in 2002, 2015 and 2020. The Mustangs have gone on to dominate the conference winning thirteen championships in the past twenty years. Coach Johnson has been named Conference Coach of the Year 2004 through 2008, 2014, 2020, and 2022. Johnson is proud of the players that have graduated and transferred to four-year institutions. There are over 97 former Mustangs that have earned basketball scholarships since 1996. The Mustangs have a 97% transfer and graduation rate since 1997. This is due to the strong academic focus within the Delta Women’s Basketball program.

The 2022-23 Mustangs carried a 3.2 Team GPA and had seven players earn academic awards at the Torch of Excellence awards ceremony in 2023. In addition to the strong academic culture, Coach Johnson’s coaching philosophy includes teaching an up-tempo style of offense and defense. Johnson’s goal as a coach is to help develop her student-athletes on and off the basketball court. Her main objective is to prepare her athletes to transfer and assist them in earning an athletic scholarship. Coach Johnson wants to do what it takes to prepare her student-athletes for the academic and athletic demands that four-year schools place on student-athletes.
