San Joaquin Delta College is a breeding ground for getting athletes to the next level of their careers. The Stockton-based junior college has had loads of athletes transfer to NCAA and NAIA programs — this year is no different.

One sport on the rise when it comes to four-year athletic program recruitment is track and field.

"We don't really do the work, the athletes do the work to get themselves in that kind of position," said Les Anthony II, Delta College track and field head coach. "They do the homework, go to class every day and put in work to get to that level. We as coaches just move their bodies in the position to make it easier for them to get there."

The Mustangs men's and women's track and field program had nine athletes sign to a four-year university to continue their athletic careers. These athletes played a key role in representing Delta College during the 2022 and 2023 California Community College Athletic Association State Track & Field Championships.

They also are the first of many commits the program will have this summer.
