Baseball is Back!

As spring sports start to get back going for hopefully their first full season since 2019 there is a lot of excitement but also a lot of unknowns for the Mustangs' baseball team as they open their season this weekend with a three-game series down in Southern California against Ventura. "I don't know what to really expect," said head coach Reed Peters who has been at Delta College since 2008 but is coming off of an offseason unlike any other before. "It's been a year and a half, I don't really know what to expect but we are all excited for the season to get going." While they will start the season with some injuries and question marks head coach Reed Peters will have plenty of options with a roster that is much higher compared to normal years and also includes more Division I kickbacks than in a normal year. "We usually have one or two and right now we have four or five," said Peters. One of those is RHP Seth Tomczak who is expected to start the season on the mound for the Mustangs after previously playing at Arizona State. Fidel Ulloa and Kansas-commit Connor Semone are also expected to start the season near the top of the rotation and see starts this weekend against Ventura. "We are swinging the bat pretty well," said Peters as he expects the team early on to be carried by the offense which includes guys like Zach Meddings, Jack Tomlinson, and Kieran Davis. "We have a pretty good veteran crew. We had two scrimmages against Los Medanos and Butte and they are both probably the best teams in their leagues and we put up double-digit runs in both of those games. After playing back-to-back weekends down in Southern California the Mustangs will play at home for the first time this season on Thursday, February 10th at 2 pm against Feather River.
