A season full of expectations

A season full of expectations
While a 2-3-1 start to the season is not quite the way head coach Josh Bradley was hoping the season would go for the Mustangs' men's soccer team the record doesn't fully tell the story of what could be a fun season for the program.

"We have really been unlucky", said Bradley about the start of the season that has seen two losses by one goal and two late goals taken away by questionable offsides calls not going the Mustangs' way.

After starting the season with a 3-2 win over Merritt the Mustangs thought they had a late equalizer against Ohlone only to see the offsides flag was up and that same offsides flag was up to take away with what appeared to be an 89th-minute winner against Napa.

"We have a really young group which is great, have great energy, and with a few more balls bouncing our way this could be a fun season."

With a roster that is nearly all freshmen, the expectations for not just this season but especially next season are high.

"A winning season this year is of course our first expectation, compete in the league, and try and make the playoffs. I think that if I can keep ahold of these 25 freshmen we can be really dangerous next year."

After a more normal summer of training and the opportunity to recruit going into this season all but three players on the team, this season is in their first year at Delta College, and Bradley is excited about this excellent recruiting class and the fight he has seen from his players so far.

In their most recent game, the Mustangs came from a two-goal deficit to tie the game before falling by a 3-2 final score.

Through the first six games, the offense has been led by three goals from Angel Zapata and two goals from Kevin Montoya-Perez.
"Angel Zapata has brought energy to the team and has an endless work rate," said Bradley about his leading goal scorer. "Kevin Montoya-Perez is always ready to play. Isai Terriquez is our center back, has played every minute of every game so far, and has been phenomenal. Mateo Pena is one of the hardest-working guys on the team."

They will be back at home on Tuesday, September 27th for a 4 pm kickoff against Fresno City College. All home games this season at Delta College will have free admission.
