We are just getting started

"We are just excited to have a season," said track and field coach Les Anthony III as the season will start next week for the Mustangs and will do so with championship expectations. "Our women's team for distance won conference so we are very excited for those ladies to transfer over to track and field," said Anthony III. "We don't have big numbers but they are very talented and we expect to challenge for a Big 8 Conference championship this season." Autumn McLaughlin, Erielle De La Cruz, Yasmin Melendrez, Miekayla Surnip, and Rebecca Hamilton were among the athletes named that will help them contend for that Big 8 Conference championship on the women's side. "For the men, I think we have a great chance to win the conference and our expectations for them are even higher," said Anthony III. "We have a strong distance group this year on the men's side. Our throwers should help solidify and get us points to help us win the conference." Steve Taylor, John Huisman, Marco Perez, and Darius Hart were among the many named that should contribute on the men's side that was described as having much more depth compared to the women's team. "I'm beyond excited," said Anthony III when asked about his excitement for the season to get going after not having a full track and field season in several years. "Right now I am pretty calm but every day I am like I can't believe we are finally able to compete. I am happy for the athletes especially for those that have waited two years as it has been hard. We are in a good place as far as training and getting things prepared for the season." Their season will get underway on Friday, February 18th at De Anza College.
