December Recap
January 3, 2025
Men's Basketball
As the calendar turns to 2025 the Mustangs can focus on Big 8 Conference play after a tournament filled month of December. With a freshman heavy roster, it's the sophomores that are leading the offense with Andruw Galindo averaging a team best 12.1 points per game. Sophomores John Harris and Lorenzo Leonard are also averaging in double figures while freshmen Joey Fross is averaging just over nine points a game coming off the bench in most of their games this season. They will be back at home next week on Tuesday for a game against Cosumnes River at 5:30 pm.
Women's Basketball
If it feels like they have been on the road most of the season it's because they have as they were on the road for nine straight games before ending 2024 with a 78-52 win at home against Santa Rosa. A win on Thursday has them now 8-6 on the season and 2-0 in Big 8 Conference play with a few days off before being the second game of a DH with the men's team at home on Tuesday. Unlike the men it's a pair of freshmen that have led the way on offense for the women's team as Isabella Azzolino is averaging 11.9 points per game while Aaliyah Youngblood is right behind her averaging 10.9 points per game.
Men's Wrestling
Putting the final touches on their season they had five wrestlers qualify for the state meet led by Marcus Mireles. Other qualifiers included Quintin Maldanado, Rylan Mitchell, Justin Barillas, and Francisco Maring. At the state meet it was Barillas who earned the Mustangs 2.5 points at the 174-pound weight class while Mireles and Mitchell each earned half a point in their weight class.
While the weather remains cold the spring season is nearing as softball, and baseball will get underway in less than two weeks with men's golf and the rest of the spring sports not far behind.
