February 3, 2025
Women's Basketball
Currently riding a six-game winning streak, they had their best month of the season in January as they went 8-1 and now 15-7 on the season. Currently in second place in the Big 8 Conference by half a game behind Folsom Lake the championship could end up coming down to the final game of the season when they Mustangs will be at Folsom on February the 21st. Fajr Cuthbertson has a team-high 11.8 points per game average but teams can't just focus on stopping her as three others average at least 10.7 points per game apart of one of the most balanced attacks in the state. They will be back on the road on Tuesday at Cosumnes River before one of their final home games of the regular season on Friday against MJC.
Men's Basketball
A 3-6 month of January has them now heading into the final month of the regular season looking to go on a run that will get them into the postseason. It has been a balanced scoring effort for most of the season five players average at least 8.5 points per game while Andrew Galindo leads the way averaging 11.1 points per game. Four of their final six games of the regular season are on the road with your final chances to see them at home coming on Friday the 7th and Tuesday the 18th.
Softball
While the rain limited the Mustangs to just one game in their first week of the season it would have been hard to have that game go much better as they defeated Reedley 17-0 and Ariel Nava pitched a perfect game. Retiring all 15 batters she faced Nava recorded eight strikeouts in the season-opening win. Cheyenne Matyshock and Elon James led the offense with three hits each as the Mustangs recorded 14 hits. James and Kennedy Dingman both had three runs batted in. They will be on the road for four games before their home opener on Saturday the 15th at 10am against Sequoias.
Baseball
Off to a 3-2 start to the season the Mustangs return home from Southern California after a 2-1 road trip that saw them end the journey with back-to-back wins. Sutter Moss and Joel Roberts each drove in three runs as the Mustangs snapped a short two-game losing streak with a 9-8 win over Pasadena City. Ian Guanzon took his turn to lead the offense during a 7-2 win over El Camino as he drove in three. Thomas Meyer gave the Mustangs seven strong innings as he allowed just two hits and one earned run while striking out five. They will be back on the diamond this evening as they take on Redwoods at 5pm at Billy Hebert Field.
Swimming
If you follow the team on social media, you would have seen how much fun they have had so far this season as they took first place at the Merced Spring Kickoff and recently raced in costumes over the weekend at the NorCal Relays. Jenna Bigelow, Kylie Richardson, and Ally Ratto all had multiple first place finishes for the Mustangs in the season opening meet in Merced.
Men's Golf
Able to get rounds in before a wet weekend they ended the opening month of the season at Oakdale Country Club with Luke Hyland leading the way with a 75. Not far behind him was Jakob Green with a 78. Before that they opened their season at the Pt. Conception Open and as a team they finished in fourth out of 15 teams. Seth Fuhrman was the leader for the Mustangs during the two-day event as he shot an 80 and 79 while Hyland shot an 80 and 84. Big 8 Conference play will get underway for them next week.
