March Recap

March Recap
Softball
While the month of March saw them win more games than they lost the highlight for them came at the end of the month as they returned to play home games on campus. Currently 14-9 overall and 9-5 in Big 8 Conference play the Mustangs will have a busy first three weeks of April with 11 games in 22 days starting on Tuesday April 1st with a home game against Siskiyous and then a home doubleheader on Saturday against American River College starting at noon. Averaging over six runs a game this season the Mustangs have seven players with at least 11 runs batted in led by Cheyenne Matyshock with a team-high 17.

Baseball
Heading into the final month of the regular season the Mustangs have a 15-15 record as they look to catch fire heading into the postseason. A trio of freshmen all have three wins on the season as Brett Graddy, Carter March, and Jack Soares also lead the team in innings pitched. Freshmen Samuel Rivas has a team-best 27 runs batted in while Sutter Moss and Joel Roberts are right behind him with 26 runs batted in for the freshmen filled squad. The month of April starts with a three-game series against MJC as the Mustangs host game one on Tuesday.

Women's Basketball
Another deep playoff run for the Mustangs saw them head down to Southern California, but they were unable to end the season with a win during a 22-9 season. Multiple honors saw Kiara Council named to the All-State Second Team while Fajr Cuthbertson was named to the All-State Third Team. Kiara Manipol, Grace Brown, and Kat Noa all received Academic All-State honors.

Track and Field
Records continue to be breaking this season out on the track as Ashonti Brown set a new record in the 100m hurdles which before this year was set back in 1983. Brown also shined at the Mangrum Invite as she not only won the 100m hurdles but finished second in the 400m hurdles while finishing 0.5 seconds away from another long-time school record. Adonis Siga would show the mens side has some talent in the hurdles as well as he finished in first place in the 100m hurdles at the Pat Ryan Invitational. Other top performances the Pat Ryan included Brown winning the 400m, Stephen Holbo winning the discuss, Jake Todden winning the shot put, and a second-place finish in the pole vault by Paige Fritts.

Beach Volleyball
It continues to be a record setting season out in the sand as well as they are now 11-7 after a six-win month of March that saw them win 5-0 in five of their wins. Starting the month with four wins in their first five matches they won all four of them by 5-0 scores with the lone loss coming to the University of the Pacific in a match to remember as they took a point off the four-year Division I school. This Friday they will have their final two home matches of the regular season as they will take on Solano at 10am and Marin at 1pm.

Men's Golf
On the final day of March, the Mustangs were in Monterey and despite battling with less-than-ideal weather they still managed to finish in second place. Jake Hyland led the way with a 77 to finish fourth overall in a field of over 50 players. Earlier in the month the Mustangs captured a Big 8 Conference match at Chardonnay in Napa with Luke Hyland finishing off his team-best 76 with an eagle on the final hole. They will be back in action on Wednesday at the Reserve at Spanos.

Women's Wrestling
With just one home dual meet they made sure it would be a memorable one as they not only honored their sophomores but picked up the win as it came down to the end. Samira Mason, Jocelyn Shelly, and Alejandra Ochoa all had wins in the 20-15 victory as Isabel Zepeda was able to clinch the win for the team with a pin in the heavyweight bout. Later this month they will be headed to compete at the state tournament in Los Angeles.

Swimming
Records were not just broken on land but in the water as well during the month of March as Ally Ratto, Kylie Richardson, Lauryn Lucero, and Jenna Bigelow set a college record in the 200-medley relay while competing at the Bob Miyashiro Invitational. Ratto also had a second-place finish in the 200 Y Back while Bigelow finished in second place in the 200 Y Fly. Ewan Rios was the top point earner for the men at the meet with his best finish coming in the 200 Y IM where he finished in 14th.
