Different Debut: Former Lincoln, Delta pitcher Dean Kremer recalls rookie MLB season

When Lincoln High grad Dean Kremer stepped on the mound at Camden Yards for his major league debut with the Baltimore Orioles, there were no fans there to cheer on the rookie pitcher.

After rising through the ranks of Baltimore's farm system Kremer, a former Lincoln standout and San Joaquin Delta College pitcher, was called up by the Orioles on Sept. 6 to make his first career start against the New York Yankees.

Through the final month of the shortened 60-game MLB season, Kremer remained on the Orioles roster, getting his first taste of the big leagues in the most unusual circumstances. From daily testing, train and bus rides to games and cardboard cutouts, Kremer never pictured his rookie season in major league baseball to look anything like it did.
