Title: | Assistant Coach 3rd Base |
From local baseball star to professional pitcher and now returning to his roots, Coach Lane brings a wealth of experience and deep Central Valley connections to the Delta College program. A 1984 graduate of Linden High School, Lane's baseball journey launched at San Joaquin Delta College, where his all-conference performance caught the attention of both professional scouts and top collegiate programs.
Despite being drafted by the Texas Rangers following his stellar career at Delta, Lane chose to further his education and development at the University of Arizona. His decision proved fruitful as he earned Wildcat Pitcher of the Year honors in 1987 before embarking upon his professional career with the Milwaukee Brewers organization. Lane's professional success included being named Minor League Player of the Month in July 1988. His career culminated with the San Diego Padres under the guidance of future World Series champion manager Bruce Bochy.
After hanging up his cleats, Lane returned to where his college career began, joining Delta College as pitching coach in 1995 under the mentorship of coach Pat Doyle. This experience began a 25-year career in education, where Lane's leadership extended beyond the baseball diamond. He served as both athletic director and ultimately principal at Bret Harte High School, combining his passion for athletics with his commitment to educational excellence.
Lane earned his B.A. in Exercise and Sports Sciences from the University of Arizona and later completed his Master's in Educational Leadership at University of the Pacific. He shares his life wi his wife Jamie and their three children: Cody (32), Lauren (30), and Josh (26). Lane's unique perspective as a former Delta College standout, professional player, and educational administrator brings invaluable experience to the coaching staff, embodying the program's commitment to developing well-rounded student-athletes.
