STOCKTON — Joe Cordova has collected a collage of sorts, filled with articles and pictures from the 1974 Delta College men's cross-country team.

A certain quote caught his eye, from a preview story in an edition of The Impact, then Delta's college newspaper. The author, Dave Tilton, asked the late Merv Smith, the coach of the Mustangs, about the outlook of the 1974 group.

"It may not sound professional, but the prospects look damn good," Smith was quoted as saying.

The 1974 Delta team will be one of two teams inducted into the Stockton Athletic Hall of Fame on Wednesday at the 55th annual awards dinner held at the Stockton Memorial Civic Auditorium, alongside the 1971-72 and 1972-73 Stagg High boys basketball teams. The Mustangs are said to be the first cross-country team inducted into the hall.
