As the calendar turns to November the start of the basketball season is ready to tip off for the Mustangs as they host the Jocelyn Mancebo Classic this weekend starting with a game against Cerro Coso tonight at 7:00pm.

"I believe we have a lot of potential, and this could be one of our better teams that we have had," said head coach Gina Johnson about her squad that will have a much different look compared to last season's team that went 26-5 and reached the state quarterfinals.

"We have a deep roster, a lot of speed and their natural IQ for basketball is very strong," said Johnson as her team loses their top three scorers from last season but do return Kiara Council and Kathreen Noa after they each averaged seven points per game last season.

"We needed more offense, and I think our freshmen class will provide that. Jakayla Gilmer is very active, can play a combination position as a guard, and is a good defender. Isabella Azzolino should one of our best three-point shooters along with Kiara Council. This year we are way better at attacking the rim and our post-game got stronger. We are really pushing the ball and tempo this year more than ever because we have the speed to do so.

Over the past five seasons the program has gone a combined 134-22 with at least 23 wins each season.
