Delta Volleyball wins the 24th Annual Delta Classic
San Joaquin Delta College hosted its annual Delta Classic Tournament this past weekend. The tournament brings together respectively the top 16 teams in Northern California for a two-day event. The Delta Classic is the largest and longest running junior college tournament in the state, held each year at the beginning of September.  The tournament was established in 1999 by then Head Coach, Mary Ann Paz.
 
Sixteen teams started play on Thursday, September 7 as Delta faced off and defeated Shasta and Cabrillo in three straight sets.  In the semifinals match Delta faced previously undefeated Lassen winning in three straight sets and faced off in the finals against last years' state champion Feather River.  Delta defeated Feather River winning in four sets ( 21-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-15) and became the 2023 Delta Classic Tournament Champions. Feather River finished second, followed by Fresno City and Lassen. 2008 was the last time Delta was crowned the champion. The MVP of the tournament was Delta's Kiyah Irby who finished the tournament with 59 kills averaging 4.5 kills per set with a hitting percentage of .427. Emily Vickers and Caprisa Brock also earned All-Tournament Team honors.  
Delta is back in action on Friday, as they open up Big 8 conference play at Santa Rosa, first serve is at 6:30 pm.
